Obituary for George Craig

George Craig
George T. Craig died from pancreatic cancer on October 29, 2017. He was at home, surrounded by family.

Born on July 24, 1940 to Tom and Marie Craig, George graduated from Snowden Township high School in 1958. He received a B.S. degree in 1962 in Fuel Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation he went to work for the Boeing Company, first in Seattle, WA and then in New Orleans, LA. In 1965 he began attending Louisiana State University, receiving his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering in 1967 and 1968 respectively.

George married Sharyn (Squier) in 1968, after which they moved to to San Diego, CA and George began working at San Diego State University. George served the University in many capacities for the next 38 years. He held the faculty ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor. He was the Department Chair for Mechanical Engineering. He held the administrative positions of Assistant and then Associate Dean, before serving for 12 years as the Dean of the College of Engineering. He retired from the University in 2006.

George loved to golf and was very active at his church. George loved being a husband, father and especially a grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharyn; two grown children and their spouses, and three grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Letty (Linn).
A celebration of life is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow in the parish house. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made in memory of George Craig to the St. Dustan’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. 6556 Park Ridge Blvd, San Diego, CA 92120.
