Ed welcomed me to Front Runners on my first day 5 years ago. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday. I could tell right way what a friendly guy he was. Over the years I got to know his warm, generous personality.

He had the most amazing collection of race t-shirts. Every run he would come with a different one, sometimes recent, sometimes going back a long time, always an opportunity for a conversation starter.

Ed promoted and encouraged participation as runners and volunteers at community events and he loved sharing his stories of places he visited as well as antecedes from the Midwest.

Ed would run a path straight up the Prado while the rest of us turned and ran down past the Aero Space Museum in Balboa Park. We would eventually catch up to Ed on the far side of Park Boulevard. The pack would be spread out by then Ed would often chime in "3 ahead of you". It was like he was our shepherd and we were his flock...keeping track and looking out for us.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness and the memories, Ed. We'll miss you. -Dan King
