Listen to Obituary

Alexander Yeaman passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in La Mesa, California. Born on June 26, 1946, in Gateshead, England, he lived a rich and meaningful life filled with love, curiosity, and dedication. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.

Alexander spent 40 years working in the telecommunications industry, taking on leadership roles in countries including England, Qatar, Barbados, St. Lucia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. His work also brought him to several states—Virginia, Texas, California, Connecticut, New York, Illinois, and Minnesota—where he built strong connections with people from all walks of life. When asked about his distinct accent, he’d often respond with a smile, “I’m from Virginia.”

He was known for his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Always ready to lend a hand, he often reached out to his son and daughter-in-law to see how he could help. His bond with his brother, Wayne, was especially strong—they spoke almost every day, no matter the distance, reflecting Alexander’s deep appreciation for staying connected.

He possessed a unique ability to engage with anyone he met. Never one to shy away from stimulating discourse, Alexander enjoyed what he called "discussions" and often remarked afterward how much he enjoyed the events. Those involved in these spirited exchanges sometimes worried they might have offended him, unaware of his affectionate and playful debating style.

Family meant everything to Alexander. He was a proud and loving grandfather to James, Eva, and Cora, and nothing made him happier than fulfilling their wishes and spending time with them. He collected books and stamps to one day pass on to his grandchildren, whether they asked for them or not. His shelves were filled with books on history, biographies, and vintage cars—interests that reflected his curious mind and adventurous spirit. He also spent time tracing his family roots, building a family tree that stretched back to the 1600s.

In addition to his professional and family life, Alexander was dedicated to serving his community. He volunteered for ten years at the San Diego Auto Museum, where he was honored with both the Rookie of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Wenner Yeaman; his son, Simon Yeaman, and daughter-in-law, Sarah; his brother, Wayne Yeaman, and sister-in-law, June; his three grandchildren, James, Eva, and Cora; his nephew, Stephen (Shelly) Yeaman; his aunts, Eva Mitchell and Pam Scurr; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Elsie Yeaman.

Alexander Yeaman leaves behind a legacy of compassion, curiosity, and unwavering love for his family and community. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 8350 Lake Murray Blvd, San Diego, CA 92119. A time for fellowship and refreshments will follow the service.
