Barbara Jeanne Urso

Barbara Jean Urso, beloved mother, friend, and San Diego third generation native, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, just weeks before her 96th birthday.

Barbara was born and raised in San Diego, a city she loved and called home for her entire life. She had a long and accomplished career in finance and accounting, known for her sharp mind and an extraordinary memory that never seemed to fade. Beyond her professional life, Barbara was someone who truly lived with heart.

She raised her two children, Lisa and Kerry, with unwavering love, strength, and devotion — doing it all on her own as a single mother. She sewed their clothes by hand, made birthdays feel special, and never missed a chance to show how deeply she cared. Even after the heartbreaking loss of her son Kerry in 1975, Barbara continued to lead with grace, lifting up those around her with quiet resilience.

Barbara loved people and stayed curious throughout her life. Whether attending social gatherings, exploring her family’s history through ancestry research, or picking up a new hobby, she always found joy in learning and connecting. She had a way of remembering the little things — a detail from a story, a name from long ago — that made everyone feel seen and known.

A proud supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Barbara believed in giving back and uplifting others. Her generosity, sharp mind, and warm presence will be remembered by all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lisa Urso, grandson Kerry Kawika Urso (son of Kerry Urso), and a circle of extended family and dear friends who will carry her memory forward with love.

In keeping with her wishes, a private gathering will be held. Those who wish to honor her life are encouraged to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
