Brian Derik Cantarini

Brian Darren Cantarini passed away on July 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, mentorship, and deep compassion.

Born on May 14, 1958 in National City, California, Brian was a proud lifelong Californian. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1976, where his early interests began to shape his future professional journey.

Pursuing his passion for communication and visual storytelling, Brian attended San Jose Sate University. He ultimately dedicated his professional career to inspiring the next generation of creators as an Adjunct Professor of Media Arts at Grossmont College. Known for his commitment to his students, Brian shared his deep intellect and creative spirit, leaving an indelible mark on countless academic journeys.

Beyond the classroom, Brian was an avid lover. He was incredibly passionate about animal welfare, rescuing many German Shepherds over the years, His kindness extended into the community, where he could frequently be found on Sunday mornings volunteering his time to walk shelter dogs. 

Brian is survived by his brother, Antony of Mariposa, California. He also leaves behind many cousins, former students, and lifelong friends who loved him dearly. His guidance, humor, and gentle heart will be missed by all who knew him. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the Julian Animal Sanctuary to honor Brian's lifelong dedication to rescuing and caring for animals in need.
