Carol Ann Anderson

October 6, 1937 — December 16, 2023

San Diego

Carol  “Mamski” Anderson passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on December 16th, 2023. Carol was born to Roy and Mildred Anderson on October 6th, 1937 in Rockford, Illinois. Carol graduated from East High School in Rockford in 1955 and earned her degree from Marquette University in 1959.  After graduation, she married a marine; and as a military family, they lived throughout the US. They settled in San Diego in 1977, where Carol lived the rest of her life.

Carol is survived by her children Gereg Grimm (Carrie Grimm), Elizabeth Anderson (Sal D’Acquisto), Pamela Losik (Troy Lemons), Krissy Zaier (Shane Zaier), and Todd Losik (Adrienne Frisbee).  She has two grandchildren, Jauni Hopesphire and Satarupa Thyme, and three great grandchildren Jacob, Lyra, and Perseus.

Carol loved baseball.  As a young woman, she volunteered for a women’s professional baseball team, The Rockford Peaches. The Peaches were the subject of the movie “A League of Their Own” and Carol met with many of the original players during the promotion of the movie. She was a dedicated Padres fan, attending games over the years, and never giving up hope that they might one day win a World Series.

Carol was a beloved elementary school teacher for many years, and her memory lives on in the jade plants she gave to her students.

Carol loved her church and her community at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.  She attended book clubs, bible studies, and fundraisers where she was famous for her lemon bars.

Carol was a kind, loving, people-person who loved to chat with those in her community.  She took pleasure in simple things–caring for her cat, doing crosswords, reading the newspaper, as well as enjoying puzzles, books, watching the birds in her backyard, and talking with her family and friends.  She made quick friends with all she met and found her way into the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be at 10:00 AM on January 4th, 2024 at Holy Cross Mausoleum (4470 Hilltop Drive).
