Carol Reed Johnson
March 1, 1939 - February 10, 2026
Carol Reed Johnson slipped peacefully into eternity at the age of 86 on February 10, with family by her side. Carol was preceded in death by beloved husbands Hubert Reed and Richard Johnson. She leaves behind three loving sons, Mark, Mike, and Steve, along with their spouses, whom she loved like daughters. In addition to her grandchildren, Brittini, Jamie, Mark Jr., Bailee, Jake and Christian, she leaves behind five great grandchildren Olivia, Emma, Lucas, Micah and Noa.
Carol was born in La Mesa and spent her early years exploring their grandparent’s ranch in rural El Cajon. She fondly recalled driving her grandfather’s car around El Cajon at the age of 12, and hitchhiking to the beach with her cousins.
She attended Helix High School where her graduating class held the distinction of being the first freshman class at Helix. She participated in the Helix Highsteppers, representing Helix at football games and local events. Carol was proud of the fact that two of her grandchildren, Bailee and Jake are also Helix alumni.
After high school graduation she attended San Diego State College. Carol put her studies on hold when she married Hubert and dedicated her life to maintaining a warm, loving home and raising her three boys. She remained wedded to Hubert until his death in 1997.
Carol and Hubert were supportive of their sons’ endeavors, most of which revolved around athletics. She was a constant presence at her sons’ games, even traveling with Hubert to watch games when the boys played outside San Diego. Carol was famous for her pancakes and many of her boys’ friends would show up on Saturday mornings hoping she was making pancakes.
After Hubert’s death Carol met and married Richard Johnson. They enjoyed retirement together traveling and watching the grandkids participate in their various activities. Carol was a dedicated Padres fan and taught Richard the game of baseball. Richard quickly became a Padres fan and they would often spend their spring and summer evenings watching Padre games on television.
After Richard passed away, Carol continued rooting for the Padres, although she softened her hatred for the Dodgers when grandson Jake pitched for them.
Carol had many varied interests, enjoying reading both fiction and nonfiction books and adding plants and trees to her garden. She loved socializing with her cousins and friends, but above all, she cherished time with her sons and their families.
Her wit and easy charm will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of her company.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your favorite charity.
