Born on January 31, 1948, in San Diego, California, Dan lived a bountiful life surrounded
by those he loved. Dan touched many lives during his 50-year career as an educator in
San Diego. His teaching years began at 16 as a coach and later a 6th-grade teacher at
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, where he soon became the first lay principal under the
mentorship of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. After serving students for twenty years
at OLSH, Dan became the principal at St. Patrick Catholic School for 25 years.
Outside of his career, Dan enjoyed preparing elaborate Mexican meals, visiting Las
Vegas, and traveling the USA supporting his youngest son’s college football team.
Most of all, Dan treasured being a dad and a grandad. His quick-witted sense of humor,
kindness, and dedication to family and friends will be missed and always remembered.
Dan leaves behind his dear children, Katie (Brian), Daniel (Ruby), and Mike (Tara);
cherished grandchildren Nate, Griff, Sean, Audrey, Caroline, and Grace; and Sharon, his
beloved wife of 56 years.
Dan passed away in San Diego on July 2, 2026, at the age of 78.
A memorial celebration is planned for the third week in July. In lieu of flowers, a donation
may be dedicated to Dan for Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest or Saint Patrick School in North
Park.
