Dennis Marten Freeman

Dennis Marten Freeman passed away on July 21, 2023, in Chula Vista CA, at the age of 83 years. He was born on September 19, 1939, the third of four sons, to Vincent and Ruth (nee Denvir) Freeman in East Orange, New Jersey.

In 1958, after graduating high school, Dennis turned down a football scholarship to enlist in the U.S. Navy. In 1964, he married Hsiu-chi Ts’ai (known as Veronica) while stationed in Taipei, Taiwan. He completed two tours in Vietnam as a Hospital Corpsman and was honored for his many achievements during the war. Dennis retired from the Navy after honorably serving for 26 years. He spent time in Honolulu and then settled in Coronado, California.

He enjoyed traveling to see his children, reading, watching football, and swimming in the ocean. In 2016, Dennis moved to the Veterans Home of California in Chula Vista. Despite thrice weekly dialysis and two bouts of COVID, Dennis remained strong, grateful, and positive until the very end.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Vincent, John, and Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Veronica Freeman of Chula Vista, CA; daughter, Constance Freeman of Santa Rosa, CA; son, Joseph Freeman, of South Lake Tahoe, CA; daughter, Ruth Mateo of Waipahu, HI, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchild.
