Edgar Lopez Ruiz (Gary), beloved son, brother and friend left us on December 12, 2025. Born on March 28, 1990, in San Diego, Edgar lived a life dedicated to service, kindness, and adventure.
Edgar's journey began as an EMT, where he found fulfillment in helping others during their most vulnerable moments. His compassion was evident to all who knew him. He went on to graduate from the Fire Fighter Academy, further dedicating himself to serving his community. Throughout his life, he rendered help to countless individuals, embodying the very spirit of selflessness.
Those who were fortunate enough to witness Edgar's gentle soul and smile will forever remember that his kindness and generosity knew no bounds. He had a special bond with his mother, Elia Ruiz, and shared countless wonderful moments with his brother, Luis Lopez, always bringing laughter and warmth into their lives.
Among many memories, one stands out vividly in the heart of his brother. During one of his late trips to Joshua Tree, Edgar demonstrated resilience and determination. Despite physical challenges that had limited his ability to walk for long periods, something magical happened that day. As they hiked through the breathtaking landscape of the national park, Edgar was infused with a newfound energy, as if the beauty of nature and perhaps a higher spirit were inspiring him. He filled with joy, and for a moment—a rare moment—when Edgar began to run, something not witnessed in months. Tears of joy filled the eyes of his brother watching, capturing the essence of Edgar's spirit and profound love for life.
Edgar’s love for animals was profound, treating his late dog, Roco, like family. Edgar Lopez Ruiz was not just a physically strong man; he possessed an even stronger spirit and heart. He was the best brother and son anyone could have hoped for. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and selflessness will endure in our hearts. May we honor his memory by embodying the virtues he lived by: kindness, compassion, and a zest for living in each moment. Rest in peace, dear Gary; your spirit will forever guide us.
