Fred Bates exemplified a life well-lived. He spent his 94 years with a positive attitude and a kind and tolerant disposition. He kept his mind sharp with Sudoku and Wordle. He was married to Artie for 64 years. He is survived by children Fred (m. Sandra), and Aneta Dorhout (m. Greg ) 4 grandchildren, Freddy Bates, Amy and Scott Dorhout, and Santiago La Verde, great-grandson Julen, and brother Mike McCloskey (m. Karen) He was raised on a farm in Rio Vista, CA and moved to San Diego in 1960. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He met his future wife at Pitney-Bowes where he worked for 39 years. At 72, he got his Real Estate license so he could help Artie with her Real Estate business. He lived his Christian values and dedicated himself to philanthropy after he retired. He delivered Meals on Wheels, visited the homebound from the Church, and delivered meals to families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please contact the family for funeral service information.
