Emblem

                                                                                   GEORGE DANIEL HUFFMASTER DALTON                                                                                     August 19, 1952 – April 14, 2025 (72 yrs.)

George was born August 19, 1952 as the third of six children (4 boys and 2 girls) to the late Dr. Luis Valentino Guazo Dalton and Agnes Violet Huffmaster Dalton of Cubao, Quezon City in the Philippines. Preceded by the oldest brother Gonzalo Reynaldo “Reny” and his younger sister, Anna Marie Rosario Malinis “Anna”. Survived by his older brother, Luis Val Jr. and youngest sister and brother, Rita and Joel. He was mostly referred to as Dan or Dan-George, or George-Dan. He attended Ateneo University under the Jesuit Order from elementary to college. On the spring of 1971, he enlisted into the U. S. Navy with his two older brothers, Reny and Val.

They attended boot camp at Naval Training Center San Diego, and Dan was designated to become a Radioman, working in communication. Radioman ‘A’ school was located at NTC San Diego, CA. After completing all the necessary qualifications, Dan was assigned to staff duty at Commander Service Group One, located at Naval Station 32nd Street, in San Diego, CA. This staff command was responsible for the logistics of approximately 43 ships and as a radioman on staff, Dan was part of a group of individuals maintaining accurate, reliable communications with the fleet.

He lived in the barracks until Spring of 1972, then moved to North Park. North Park became ‘home’ to Dan more than anyone could realize. It offered access to Balboa Park, and movie theaters. Dan would spend many nights in Ocean Beach around the camp fires with his friends. Home is where his heart was.

Later that year Dan shared that his mom, youngest sister, Rita, and youngest brother, Joel, would be moving to the states and were coming to San Diego. Dan and his friend Mark aka Fred drove to Los Angeles airport to meet them in November of 1972. The family stayed with a friend of Dan’s, until he was able to get a two-bedroom apartment on University Ave across from University Lanes bowling alley.

We often visited his friend's family in Palm Springs, where Dan enjoyed the warm climate and the wonderful people we met. He always had a great sense of humor, and his perfectly timed one-liner quips never failed to make us laugh.

In August 1974, COMSERVGRU ONE, relocated to Mare Island, Vallejo, California which is just north of San Francisco, until he was transferred to a ship in Pascagoula, Mississippi. When Dan was honorably discharged from the Navy, he returned to San Diego, CA, to a place he called “home” …the neighborhood he loved most, North Park.

He became a caregiver for his mom during her later years, who lived in North Park until she was called to be with the Lord. As Dan’s own health started waning, he required assistive living which took him to La Jolla, yet all the while he yearned to returned to the North Park community which he had spent many fond years as a young man and maturing adult. He reaffirmed his belief in Christ later in life, as he shared this with Rita and Joel.

He has now transitioned into a place where we all must go someday, we are blessed and grateful to our Father for the gift that He gave us in Dan, who will be remembered as a fun- loving and humorous brother, uncle, cousin and friend, We pray that he is at peace and we know that God’s Word is true. And for those who follow Him, will awaken to a new glorified body. His smile, laughter, love and kindness will be greatly missed.

We love you, Dan!

From the words of Scars in Heaven:

The only scars in Heaven, Won’t belong to me and you.                                                                                                                                               There’ll be no such thing and broken, And all the old will be made new,                                                                                                                      And the thought that makes me smile now, Even as the tears fall down,                                                                                                                        Is that the only scars in Heaven                                                                                                                                                                                         Are on the hands that hold you now!
