Georgina Chadrow Muir

June 28, 1938 — July 19, 2021

Georgina Chadrow Muir, age 82, passed away peacefully, at her home on July 19, 2021, surrounded by
the love of her family and close friends, after a long and graceful battle against breast cancer.
Born on June 28, 1939 in Hawthorne, NV, she grew up in San Diego, CA, with her parents, Bea and Charly
Chadrow, and brothers, David and Danny. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1957, and worked
at San Diego Gas & Electric. She studied Criminology at San Diego City College, with plans to become a
Police Officer defending juvenile crimes.
She married her beloved Andrew Muir (1930 – 2007) on June 9, 1962 and was blessed with two
cherished daughters, Andrea Charlene and Carin Elayine. She enjoyed an active and creative life, sewing
her daughters’ dance costumes, baking amazing birthday cakes, supporting San Diego Lodge #35 F&AM,
also receiving her 50-year pin in 2019 from the La Paloma Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Gina went into business with her mother, opening B/G’s Florist from 1976 – 1982, moving to Lion in the
Sun Florist and Floral Emporium, then finishing a glamorous career in floral design with Irwin
Productions, coordinating floral installations in hotels throughout San Diego, and travelling around the
country working Grand Openings for hotels, casinos and riverboats.
She adored her German Shepherds, loved to camp, competed competitively in various firearm shooting
events, and continued to support philanthropic activities throughout her life. She is an Honored Lady at
Al Bahr Shrine spending many years with Sons of the Desert and enjoying the Mt. Laguna Shrine Club
with her family and large circle of friends.
Following Andy’s death, Gina volunteered at the San Diego Police Museum and was a founding Board
Member and Volunteer Coordinator. She married Edward Backes in June 2010 and enjoyed travelling,
cruising and spending time in Cabo San Lucas.
Gina was preceded in death by her parents Bea and Charly, brother David, daughter Carin, husband
Andy, and her second husband Ed. She is survived and celebrated by daughter, Andrea Muir, chosen
son Rick Jayroe (MaryAlyce), chosen daughter Christina Jayroe, and brother Daniel Chadrow and family.
Also surviving are her beloved niece Terri Piazzo and family, nephews Mark and Bill Muir and families,
and her chosen sister Pat Brennan and family, along with hundreds of lifetime friends whom she
welcomed as family.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, August 12 th , at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, in
Bonita, CA, with a Celebration of Life following at the family residence in San Carlos, CA. In lieu of
