Gloria Mary (Shalhoub) Bitar, 98, of San Diego, California passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at The Nazareth House where she received exceptional love and care for over 12 years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Gloria will be remembered for her radiant spirit, deep faith, and her boundless generosity expressed through acts of kindness and hospitality.
Born June 29, 1927, in St Louis, Missouri, Gloria moved with her family, as a child to Brooklyn, New York where she spent her formative years. After completing secretarial school, she built a fulfilling career with Catholic Charities on Long Island, where her meticulous work and compassionate heart enriched the lives of many.
At age 24, Gloria met the love of her life, Joseph Bitar, at a wedding in Brooklyn. Their connection was immediate, blossoming into a marriage that spanned over 50 years. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a life filled with love, laughter, faith and devotion.
After retirement, Gloria and Joe settled on Marco Island, Florida immersing themselves in a vibrant community and cherishing, the sunshine and serenity of their later years. Gloria loved to travel and journal all of her experiences. She also had a love of fashion and beautiful things, which she shared as she worked at beautiful boutiques and jewelry stores in Naples, Florida.
Following Joe's passing in 2004, Gloria relocated to San Diego, California where she would be close to some family and continue to live with grace, warmth, and gratitude.
Gloria is survived by her four children: Michelle Barrett (Paul, deceased), Ken Bitar (Patricia), Barbara Perkins (Bill), and Denise Persico (Joe); 11 beloved grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren with one on the way. She now joins her husband, Joe, her parents and her siblings in eternal rest.
Gloria will be laid to rest beside Joe at San Marco Church on Marco Island, Florida on March 13, 2026 at 11:00 am. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and family ... A beautiful legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
