Gregory Bart Mahan

September 14, 1953 — May 16, 2023

Our beloved husband, father, “papa” and friend, Greg Mahan, passed peacefully at his home on May 16, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The youngest of six children, he was born in Prairie City, Oregon on September 14, 1953 to Claude and Anne Mahan. Graduating top of the class in high school, he went on to attend the University of Chicago for both undergrad and medical school. After helping patients for more than 35 years as a cardiologist in San Diego, he retired in 2018 to pursue his love of golfing, traveling and more time with his family. He was known for his famous BBQ ribs, an uncanny ability to answer the most obscure Jeopardy questions, his gentle demeanor and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Bette, children Patrick (Kelly) and Kristin, grandchildren Tessa and Clark, identical twin brother Jeff, sisters Shelia and Kristi, and brothers Mike and Tim.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 16 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to Bette via text at 858 254 8982.   Casual attire & there will be an open mic to share warm hearted stories about Greg.
