In Loving Memory of Jeri Gayle Youtsey

A Life Well-Lived

Jeri Gayle Youtsey, 69, was a beloved mother, treasured grandmother known as “Jama,” cherished sister, and adored aunt. She passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026—Good Friday—surrounded by her loving family, after a brief but intense battle with cancer.

Born in San Diego, California, on March 29, 1957, Jeri was the daughter of Burke Draheim and Bobbye Lack. She grew up in San Diego alongside her sister, Doni, and her brother, Damon. From an early age, she showed a creative spirit—drawing, playing the violin, and riding horses—and a natural, lifelong connection with animals.

In the early 1980s, Jeri married Greg Youtsey, and together they welcomed their son, Sean, in 1982. Although their marriage was brief, Jeri and Greg remained close friends and dedicated coparents throughout her life.

Over the years, Jeri filled many roles—daughter, sister, cousin, mom, aunt, friend, manager, deacon, and caretaker. In 2016, she received the title she cherished most: Grandma, or “Jama.” She doted on her grandchildren, Logan and Olivia, and loved them with all her heart.

Jeri was deeply committed to her faith and to serving others. As a deacon at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, she shared the good word through teaching Sunday school and active participation in the life of the congregation.

Her compassion extended to every creature. Jeri had an unwavering love for animals and cared for countless stray cats that found their way to her home—giving them a second chance and showering them with affection.

Professionally, Jeri built a remarkable career at Cox Communications. She began as a dispatcher in the late 1990s and, over 29 years, earned numerous promotions, awards, and recognition. Just as meaningful were the friendships she formed there—a found family of colleagues who loved and supported one another deeply.

In later years, Jeri found great joy in travel. For the last decade, she made annual trips to Europe with her mother, Bobbye, and cousin, Scott—visiting many countries and choosing to stay in towns long enough to experience them as locals did.

To know Jeri was to experience love, kindness, positivity, and steady encouragement. She inspired others to do better and brought light to every room she entered. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jeri is survived by her sister, Doni Rustich; her son, Sean Youtsey; her daughter-in-law, Lacie Youtsey; her grandchildren, Logan and Olivia; and her six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Burke Draheim; her mother, Bobbye Lack Draheim; her brother, Damon Draheim; and her brother-in-law, Craig Rustich.
