Joanne Elizabeth Barrett was born on June 19th,1942 in Fredricton, New Brunswick to her parents Clara and Overton Holt. She lived in Canada with her siblings, John and Linda Holt, until she was 12 years old. Her family moved from Montreal to San Diego by plane in October of 1954. In San Diego, she attended Roosevelt Junior High, San Diego High, and ultimately graduated from Hoover High School. Her father owned Blackie’s Market on Fern St. where she grew up in San Diego. Her first job was at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla as an elevator operator. She met the love of her life, James Barrett, in 1959 when she was 17 years old. They married on April 7th, 1961 and had their 1st child, James Jackson Barrett Jr. on November 21st, 1961. Their second child, Deborah Lynn Barrett, was born on September 12th, 1963. Around 1968, they purchased their first home on Donna Avenue. Joanne held many jobs throughout her life including: a travel agent, leading bus tours, selling Avon and Fashion 220, various retail jobs, and a florist. Her dream was to open a bed and breakfast with her husband Jim in Silverton, Oregon. In 1997, she took over ownership of Flowerland Florist and made thousands of flower arrangements for the San Diego community. Besides creating flower arrangements, she also loved to travel, do puzzles, play games, go camping, read the newspaper, and spend time with her 4 grandchildren. She is survived by her 2 children James (Kristen) and Debbie, her brother John Ralph, her sister Linda (Walter), her nieces and nephews, Amber (Tomas), Michael and Matthew, and her 4 grandchildren; Katlin, Paige, Joshua, and Kailee; and her great niece Morgan Ivy.
