Beloved husband, father and grandfather went home to be with Jesus surrounded by members of his family. John was born in Port Lavaca, Texas to John Walter and Etta Muriel Pickering. He proudly served his country in the US Navy for 21 years as an Instrument Repairman retiring in 1972 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. John loved all things automotive and owned and operated Pickering's Friendly Auto in Lemon Grove from 1972 to 2017. He was a long time member of the Hill Church in La Mesa.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years Joanne Pickering, children John W. Pickering (Peggy), John R. Pickering (Sandy), Teresa A. McGilvray (Chris), Susan C. Pickering and Jocelyn L. Gay (Brandon), 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
