Lewis Edward Johnson

Lewis Johnson passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. Lew is lovingly remembered by family and friends as a kind and gracious father, husband and friend. 

A native San Diego, he graduated from San Diego High School in 1949 and then San Diego State College with a bachelor's degree in education. He began his teaching career in Imperial Valley then taught Science at Roosevelt Jr High School from the 1960's into the 1990's. Long enough he would say that former students started coming back as parents. He earned his master's in education before enjoying a long retirement where he pursued his many interests.

He enjoyed photography and built his own darkroom. He enjoyed gemology, becoming a GIA certified gemologist and learned to facet gemstones as a member of the San Diego Mineral and Gem Society.He enjoyed building and sailing radio-controlled model boats at the San Diego model yacht pond in Mission Bay.

He is survived by his dear wife Helen, sons Mark (Rebecca Mumaw) Johnson and Erik (Maria) Johnson and several grandchildren and great grandchildren
