Lori Kim Harrand

Lori Kim Harrand passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, after a long and valiant struggle with cancer.  She dedicated her life to her craft as a hairstylist in San Diego, working tirelessly for 47 years and was known as a master of color and cuts.  Lori's professional journey took her through only two different salons, where she left an indelible mark on her colleagues of decades and her beloved clients whom she adored and were her best friends.

Lori was born in Kewanee, Illinois on October 5, 1957, to Neil and Jan Harrand who have since departed and is survived by her sister, Lisa Harrand O'Brien who currently resides in Alaska with her husband, Tom and their children, Joshua (Jack), Katherine and Amanda.  The Harrand family relocated to Iowa in 1960 and then to Banning, California in 1967, where their father worked as the publisher of the local newspaper, The Record Gazette, until his retirement.

Lori's feisty spirit was matched only by her kindness and her hard work was evident in every snip of the scissors and every color application.  She had a special affinity for cats and dogs, often sharing stories of her furry companions with her friends and clients.

Perhaps Lori's most endearing quality was her raucous and infectious laugh.  She reveled in life's absurdities and found the greatest joy in retelling these events, especially when they involved herself.  Even as she struggled with cancer and the inability to speak, Lori could laugh at life and herself.  This may have been what endeared her to those who had the pleasure to exist in her orbit.

Lori's legacy will live on in the memories of those she touched, the hairstyles she crafted and the laughter she so abundantly shared.  She will be missed by her family, her friends and the entire community she built around herself and who supported her so lovingly in her last year.

Rest in peace, dear Lori.  May your scissors continue snipping among the stars and every roar of thunder will remind us of your laugh and each lightening that quick snip of your scissors.
