Luther Howard Smith Jr

Born Luther Howard Smith, Junior, on January 18, 1952, in Lehigh, Oklahoma. Luther was fifth of seven children born to Luther and Mary Smith. 

After moving to Washington State, Luther met and married Deborah Abdullah (d). Their union was blessed with three boys. In August 2001, Luther married Linda Goode (d) and became a much-loved member of the Anderson family. On February 2, 2020, Luther and Leonita “Leo” were joined in a lifelong partnership, adding a daughter to the family.

His relationship with God, family, and church was evidenced by the countless men, women, and children whose lives he has touched over the years. The stories of his generosity of time, talent, and treasure would fill volumes. His hands and heart were always available to others. Luther’s ministry was always Christ-First and Christ-Centered. 

Luther took the saying “It takes a village” to heart. Colleagues and community members alike will attest to his ability to assist wherever needed. He gladly volunteered his resources and talents to a myriad of organizations.  He was committed to serving underprivileged and under-represented populations where the need arose. He understood “to whom much is given, much is required” (Luke 12:48).

On June 24-27, 2025, during his last hospital stay, Luther’s celebration of life took place. It was important for him to see and to hear what he meant to so many. Over 100 friends and family took the time to talk with him, share a laugh, a testimony, prayers, and express their love. Luther was an avid golfer, martial arts practitioner, and devoted football and basketball fan.

He made the decision to spend his last days at home, and the celebration of his life continued as co-workers, family, and friends visited. Luther’s legacy will be one that will have an impact for generations to come. He was loved and respected; and will be missed by many.
