It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, grandson, and nephew, who died suddenly on October 5, 2025, at the age of 35. Marco was loved dearly by his family and friends. He was taken from us much too young and will be deeply missed.
Marco was born on May 28, 1990. He grew up in San Diego and attended Patrick Henry High School where he learned ceramics and enjoyed making pottery. He later attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York where he learned and became passionate about culinary arts. Marco built a successful career as a Chef working in many of the restaurants in San Diego including George’s at the Cove, Coasterra, Tahona San Diego, The Patio on Goldfinch, Urban Solace, Valle, 10 Barrell and Rancho Berando Inn to name a few. He was known for his dedication, high level of quality and ingenuity in San Diego’s restaurant industry.
Outside of work, Marco lived life to the fullest. His passions included cooking incredible meals, gardening, making ceramics, biking, hiking, attending sporting events (baseball, hockey and soccer) and spending time with family, friends, and his dog Mary. Marco was a super Padre fan and loved attending Padre games any chance he got with family and friends. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to his profession of being an exceptional Chef. Marco was proud of his Mexican heritage and traveled to various parts of Mexico including Mexico City and Oaxaca to experience Mexican cuisine in fine dining restaurants and learn the diverse culture of the Mexican people. He recently received his dual citizenship and planned on moving to Oaxaca to work and study Mexican culinary arts. While spending time in Mexico, he met and fell in love with a beautiful woman by the name of Silvia. He also fell in love with her family and was looking forward to creating a second home in Oaxaca Mexico.
Marco is survived by his loving parents, Venise Quintero and Joe Quintero and their sons Joseph Quintero and his wife Erin, Anthony Quintero, and Nicolas Quintero. He also leaves behind his maternal grandfather Salvador Contreras, paternal grandfather Charles “Chuck” Woodvine, his Aunt Adela Soriano and her daughter Alexa Soriano and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of life will be held on October 25, 2025, at 2pm at the Escala Clubhouse, 2840 Clubhouse Lane, San Diego, CA 92108.
