Listen to Obituary

Mary Beth (Walton) Difley was born in Harrisburg, PA on September 29, 1942, and passed into the arms of Jesus in Rancho San Diego, CA on October 21, 2025.  Beloved wife, mother, sister and nana, Mary Beth exhibited love, encouragement and faith to all who knew her.

She was raised by her mother in the home of her paternal grandparents in Paxtang, PA until age 2-1/2 due to her father being overseas in WWII. Her family continued in Paxtang until Jr. High, moving to Spry for 7th and 8th grade, then to York for 9th. Her family moved to Lancaster, PA and attended McCaskey High School, where she met Bill Difley, the love of her life. She and Bill went to separate colleges (she Psychology, he Physics) and then married on August 22, 1964, and moved to Pittsburgh, PA for Bill’s MBA, then Baltimore (1965-67) for Bill’s aerospace job. Until the birth of her identical twin sons, Matt & Mike, on May 23rd, 1967, Mary Beth worked to support the family.

Mary Beth, Bill and the twins moved to San Diego to begin what would be Bill’s 30-yr career with Rohr. They welcomed their precious adopted daughter, Michelle, in 1971 at 5 weeks old. When Michelle entered Jr. High, Mary Beth went back to San Diego State for her master’s in social work. She worked various social work jobs until joining Bill in retirement in 1998. Mary Beth, Bill and family grieved the loss of Matt to ALS on January 31, 2021. Near life-long believers in Jesus, they launched a 30-year focus on marriage ministry/grandparenting at Skyline Church.

Mary Beth is survived by her husband Bill, son Mike (Ana), daughter Michelle (Armando), grandchildren Ethan, Jadon, Chloe, Nicholas, Lucas and Olivia and her brother David (Cathy). She is preceded by her son Matt (Michelle Boulger), parents Thomas and Elizabeth Walton, and brother Tom (Linda).

A celebration of life will be held on December 8th 2025 at 1:00 pm, Skyline Church, La Mesa, CA.
