Dr. Michael Lance Harvey, 85, of Spring Valley CA

passed away on November 1st, 2025.

A native Californian, he grew up in Fullerton and received his BS in Chemistry

from Harvey Mudd College. Discovering his love of the arts, he attended UCLA

resulting in an MA in Theatre. He then received his PHD from the University of

Minnesota, as well as earning a McKnight Fellowship to the Guthrie Theatre.

In 1969 he joined the Theatre faculty at San Diego State University where he

served as a professor of Theatre until his retirement in 2003. He was also the

voice of “Reg-Line” at SDSU for many years and continued to support San

Diego State University as a Professor Emeritus in the School of Theatre,

A scholarship has since been established in the Harvey name.

As a director his work was seen at Lamb’s Players Theatre, Old Town Opera

House, Summer Repertory Theatre, Scripps Ranch Theatre, Great American

Melodrama, The Minnesota Showboat, Stagecoach Opera House, and many

more. As a theater movement expert he was a consultant for the Old Globe

Theatre, Lamb’s Players Theatre and Cygnet Theatre. And as an actor he is

still remembered by San Diego audiences for his brilliant portrayal of Sir

Thomas More in A Man for All Seasons at Lamb’s Players Theatre.

He was a life-long baseball fan and in retirement became an active member of

the La Mesa Senior Softball League.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey, daughter Ellen,

sister Colleen Ewing and her husband Charlie.
