Michael Dean Williams, affectionately known as Mike, was born on December 30, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan. He departed this life far too soon on January 25, 2026, in San Diego, California. Mike dedicated 30 years of his professional life to the City of San Diego in the Water Quality Lab, culminating his career as the Superintendent of Water Quality. His diligent work ethic and commitment to excellence were recognized by many, earning him numerous awards throughout his distinguished career.
Mike's educational journey began at Clawson High School, where he laid a solid foundation before earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arizona. His academic performance, paired with his affinity for hands-on projects, made him exceptional in various disciplines, including woodworking, electrical work, plumbing, and mechanical repairs. Mike was the type of person who could fix anything, and he often volunteered his skills to help others, reflecting his generous and kind-hearted nature.
A gentle soul with an adventurous spirit, Mike will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the love he shared with family and friends. He cherished the bonds he built over the years, often finding joy in spending time with those he adored. He was a remarkable brother to Kevin (Julie) Williams, Larry Williams, and Jan Holdsworth, whose fond memories of their time together highlight their close relationship, including joyous outings during their high school years. From canoeing outings that didn't end in mishap to mountain biking adventures shared with family and friends, Mike’s life was filled with love and laughter.
His two nephews, Josh (Heather) Holdsworth and Justin (Kathryn) Holdsworth, along with his great nephews—Joey, Vinny, Eli, and George—and great nieces, Olivia and Emma, were sources of pride for Mike. The warmth of family was evident in every interaction, and he managed to be a best friend to every person he met, leaving a lasting impact on their hearts.
In addition to family ties, Mike shared a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Rachel Ingra. Together, they created memories that enriched both their lives, filled with laughter and adventure.
With a personality that radiated kindness, humor, and adventure, Mike's heart was a pure embodiment of love. He was always there to lend a helping hand or share a laugh, making the world a better place for everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. His spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind, as they carry forth the lessons of friendship, generosity, and love that he so effortlessly exemplified.
Michael Dean Williams is survived by his brothers, Kevin (Julie) and Larry; his sister, Jan; his nephews, Josh (Heather) and Justin (Kathryn); his great nephews, Joey, Vinny, Eli, and George; his great nieces, Olivia and Emma; and his girlfriend, Rachel Ingra. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Howard and Beatrice Williams, and his brother, Paul Williams. His legacy of kindness, adventure, and unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
