Miharu Okano Edwards, a woman whose life was defined by unwavering faith, quiet strength, and profound devotion to her family, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, in San Diego, California. Born on April 18, 1954, in Japan, Miharu embraced the journey of life with grace, humility, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone she encountered.

Miharu started her journey in Japan, where she was born and raised before making San Diego her cherished home. Her life was a testament to the power of lifelong learning and resilience, as she embraced the challenges and opportunities of building a new life in a different country. She was a hardworking and dedicated woman who took immense pride in caring for her family. Whether through her professional endeavors or her selfless service to others, Miharu approached every responsibility with a steadfast commitment and a graceful heart.

Her deep faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her existence. Throughout a period of declining health, Miharu found comfort, strength, and peace in her trust in God. Surrounded by the loving support of her family, church community, caregivers, and friends during her final months, she demonstrated the same quiet courage and resilience that had defined her entire life. Though her passing leaves a profound sense of loss, her family finds solace in the knowledge that she now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Miharu was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Haruko and Shigeo Okano, and her sister, Chinami Okano. While their memories live on in the hearts of all who loved her, Miharu’s spirit continues to shine brightly through those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her daughters, Mari Edwards Singer and Jennifer Edwards Nalley, along with Jennifer’s husband, Patrick Nalley. Her legacy is further carried on by her cherished grandchildren—Maddie Edelen, Trey Singer, Barret Horton, and Tybee Nalley. Miharu is also survived by her former husband, Terry Lee Edwards, and her five nephews in Japan: Koichi, Kazunori, Hidekazu, Naoto, and Nobushina. Her extended family spans across continents, including numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and relatives throughout Japan, whose lives were enriched by her gentle presence. In her faith community, the San Diego Japanese Christian Church, Miharu found a steadfast fellowship that offered friendship and spiritual support throughout her years.

Miharu’s kindness, resilience, and generosity will be treasured forever by those she loved and those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy is one of love, faith, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
