Nova Jo Smith, 51, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in San Diego, California, with her family by her side. She was born on April 17, 1974, in Texarkana Texas, and though her roots were in Texas, she also made a home and beautiful memories in San Diego, California.Nova was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished family get-togethers, movie nights surrounded by the people she loved most, and the simple, meaningful moments that turned into lifelong memories. She found comfort in journaling about life and was devoted to continuing to grow in her faith. Her relationship with God gave her strength, peace, and guidance throughout her life.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lauryn and Elijah Okai of San Diego, California; her son and daughter-in-law, Lester Jr. and Kimiya Smith of DeKalb, Texas; her three beloved grandchildren, Arie, Amar, and Aiyana Love of DeKalb, Texas; her sisters, Judy Whiteman of New Boston, Texas, and La’Teisha Williams ofTexarkana, Texas; her brothers, Robert Brown of Hooks, Texas, David Hebert of New Boston, Texas, and James Williams of Texarkana, Texas; Nephew Nic Rogers of New Boston Tx; her cousins, Rhonda and Rose of New Boston, Texas; her bonus daughter, Kandice Wise of Avery, Texas; and numerous other cherished family members and friends.Nova was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester Smith Sr.; her mother, Judy Copeland; and her grandmother, Bertha Watson.Nova will be remembered for her love, her strength, her faith, and the way she held her family close. Though she is no longer physically with us, her love continues to guide and surround those she leaves behind.No services will be held at this time.
