Olivia Hearn

At birth, she was given the name Olivia Burrel. Born to John Burrel and Florence Whealer in Claiborne, Mississippi on May 27, 1928. In her late teens she married Levi Hearn Sr. Six children were born to this union; 4 boys and 2 girls.
In the late 1950s, the Hearn family moved to San Diego, California. While the children were young, She worked cleaning houses to help keep food on the table. She had a quiet manner, but was a very strong woman. She took the long bus ride to work and took the long bus ride back home. Awaited her was cooking, maybe washing and listening to children. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. S.M. Lockridge, Pastor for years.
After the divorce, the children were older, she was determined saying, “I am not going on welfare to make ends meet”, although it was offered to her. She was surrounded in her neighborhood by welfare mothers.
She took driving classes to learn to drive.
She took an electronic class and received Certificates for: Beginning Computer Programming, Fork Lift Operator and Electronic Assembler. She was hired by Control Data Corp. and worked there for more than 14 years. She also worked for General Dynamics. One morning while driving to work, she was severely injured by a hit and run driver. She was then forced to retire.
Becoming a grandmother was the joy of her life; She played games with them, took them places and had them over for many weekends, which included her cooking her “Famous Spaghetti” from scratch. That was a happy time for them all.
February 4, 2022, she was set free from pain and suffering. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her oldest son Levi Hearn Jr., her sister Etta Ray, her youngest daughter, Debra Mays and her grandson, Lanaro Hearn. Left to enjoy her memories is her daughter Patricia (Pat) Kendricks (Kammie who she loved and considered her son). Her Sons: Melvin Sr., Glenn and Jerome Hearn (Margrit her Daughter-in-Law, who she considered a loving and giving daughter).
Grandchildren: Janaro Hearn, Carmen Kendricks, Cory Hearn (Catja), Kendra Kendricks, Marisa Imboden (Marc) and Melvin Hearn Jr. Great Grandchildren: Raymond Forsberg Jr. (Nadia) resides in Texas, Antonia Hearn and Emylia Hearn (both reside in Switzerland). Great Great Grandchildren: Noah Forsberg, Zoe Forsberg and Mikah Forsberg (all reside in Texas). Close Cousin: Helena Black (Los Angeles, CA). Brother-in-Laws: Lawrence Hearn (San Diego) and David Hearn (Mississippi)….along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
