Paul Everett Blood, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego, California, on January 6, 2026. He was surrounded by his family as they shared stories about his many adventures. He was ninety-one years old.
Paul was born on November 19, 1934, in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in South Buffalo. In 1952, he was the first member of his family to go to college, attending Syracuse University where he was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He served in the army from 1954-56 before returning to Syracuse and earning a degree in Transportation.
While living in Wheeling, West Virginia, he met his wife of sixty-six years, Marna L. Ross. He married Marna in 1961 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Paul spent much of his life and career in the Utica area. He worked as a pharmaceutical salesman for the Upjohn Company. He was a Hospice volunteer for many years. For several years he served on the Board of Directors of Central New York Hospice. He also served on the Town of New Hartford Planning Board and was a member of the Toastmasters Club. In 2022, he and his wife moved to San Diego, California to be with their family.
Paul was sociable, funny, and compassionate. He always had time for others, whatever their station in life. He was known for his dry, quick, and kind wit. We remember how easily he made his family laugh, like when he would count from one to ‘twelveteen’ over the giddy protests of his grandchildren. He loved animals and cared for fish, cats, dogs, and all kinds of other pets throughout his life. He had many varied interests and countless hobbies that he shared with his family and friends, ranging from photography, to sports (Go Bills), to the early adoption of personal computers. He loved spending time with friends, practicing his golf game with the aid of countless gadgets, and in retirement, spending lunches with his longtime friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marna, of San Diego, his daughter, Kim Debuono and her husband Paul Debuono, of San Diego, his son, Timothy Blood and his partner Julia Yoo, of San Diego, his daughter, Ellen Blood of Vicenza, Italy, and his three grandchildren, Nicole Debuono, Alex Blood, and Hannah Blood of San Diego.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Paul's name to Spring Farm CARES, an animal and nature sanctuary in Clinton, New York. www.springfarmcares.org
