Ria Vongehr, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in La Mesa, California, on August 30, 2025. Born in Diest, Belgium, on October 1, 1937, Her family immigrated to Quebec, Canada, where she finished her schooling and started her first job, before moving to San Diego in 1957. She met and married the love of her life, Dieter Vongehr, in San Diego and they were happily married 47 years until his death in 2007.

Ria was a devoted wife and mother. She raised her daughters, Nadia Clayton and Monique Vongehr, instilling in them strong family values and took great pride in the women they became . Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brought her great joy. Ria was affectionately known as Boma to her family. including granddaughters Lindsay Dyson, and Krista Clayton, and great-grandchildren Magdalene Dyson, Lucy Dyson, Kolbe Dyson, Pax Dyson, Mary Josephine Dyson, Benedict Dyson, Dolores Dyson, Ignatius Dyson, and Gianna Criscione. Her legacy of love will continue to inspire and guide them in the years to come.

Not only was Ria a nurturing presence in her family, but she also had a passion for travel, which she shared with her late husband, Dieter Vongehr. She was an avid reader and her creative pursuits included sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Ria’s hobbies were not just activities; they were ways for her to connect with those around her, creating lasting memories through shared experiences and beautifully crafted pieces.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dieter; her parents, Clem and Emma Voordeckers; and her brother, Frank Voordeckers. Though she has departed from this world, the love and light she brought into the lives of others will be eternally cherished.

Ria Vongehr leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved dearly.
