Richard William Allard was born at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa on May 25, 1947 to Charles and Ruth Allard. He was the youngest of 6 children and the only one born in a hospital.
Richard (Rick) grew up wandering the Iowa State University campus where his father, Charles, worked as a carpenter. He was part of a large family that loved the semi-rural Iowa life. He hunted with his father and brothers, rode go carts, and worked on cars. He had many adventures in the woods and on the farms around the Ames/Boone area which gave him many funny stories to tell his kids and grandson. His passions were antique cars, fifties music, the ore carriers of the Great Lakes, and a little girl Corgi named Willow.
Rick was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Allard and David Allard, and his sisters Esther Morck and Shirley Childress. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl; his sister Sandi Ericson of Ankeny, Iowa; his son Christopher Allard of Florida; his daughter Deana Bochmann of Minnesota; and his daughter Jennifer Allard of San Diego, California. Rick is also survived by several grandchildren including his beloved grandson Kiernan Smith of San Diego, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be cremated and his ashes spread in Ames, Iowa and in Lake Superior off the shore of Duluth, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held for family in Iowa later this year. If anyone wants to honor his memory, please make a donation in his names to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50313.
