Richard A. Swoy

In the early hours of Monday, September 16, 2024, Richard A. Swoy, grandfather, father, friend, colleague and former husband, passed away at the age of 82. Richard was born on February 12, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to Mike (Mahmood) and Hattie Swoy. Richard and his family moved to San Diego in 1956 to be closer to his sister, Barbara Ann, while she attended college. After graduating from Grossmont High School, Richard attended San Diego State University for a short while before joining the United States Army, where he served honorably as a Military Police officer. Once out of the Army, Richard began his illustrious career which spanned multiple industries and produced several successful businesses. Richard’s legacy in the insurance industry will live on. His visionary ideas are still in practice today. Doing business with Richard was usually a memorable experience and often transformative. He was blessed with three daughters, Tiffany, Taylor, and Madison. And five grandchildren that are already changing the world, Maria, Isabella, Antonina, Hudson and Bennett. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Mike, his mother, Hattie and his sister Barbara Ann. He is survived by his daughters Tiffany, Taylor, and Madison as well as Karen Stratton and Michele Swoy. Richard will be loved, missed, and remembered by many for his determination, humor, intelligence, and generosity. A funeral service will be held on October 2, 2024 at 10am at Miramar National Cemetery, which is located at the following address: 5795 Nobel Dr. San Diego, CA 92122. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering immediately following the service at George’s at the Cove.
