Tony Troxel, born on March 12, 1943, in California, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, in San Diego, California. Tony’s life was a vivid mosaic of dedication, intelligence, and heartfelt service—one that deeply touched everyone who knew him. Known affectionately by those close to him simply as “Tony, Tony .. Tony!!,” he was a man who lived his life with enthusiasm and a profound commitment to helping others bring their dreams to life. For Tony, every day was “Show-Time!”

Tony’s remarkable journey began with an impressive academic foundation, earning a master’s degree, a testament to his sharp intellect and willingness to pursue knowledge with passion. But Tony’s achievements extended far beyond the classroom. A proud veteran, he served with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force from August 1962 to April 1966, earning longevity service awards in recognition of his dedicated service. His military career also included outstanding leadership as a Commanding Officer in the United States Navy, where he was revered for his commitment, numerous accomplishments, and his role during crucial mobilizations. Tony’s patriotism shone brightly when he was recalled to active duty under No. 12727 in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm aboard the USS Tarawa from January to May 1991 in the Persian Gulf. His service was marked by courage, honor, and a steadfast devotion to his country.

Outside of his distinguished military career, Tony found joy in simpler pleasures that enriched his daily life. He was an avid reader, a strategist in card games, and a cherished member of his poker group, where camaraderie and competition intertwined. The joy of dining out with his favorite friends, savoring the flavors of new and classic venues alike, brought him endless happiness. Mini road trips stirred his love for exploration and spontaneity, small adventures in which he found great delight.

Tony leaves behind a loving family who were the center of his world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara B. Troxel, to whom he was married for 34 wonderful years. His daughters, Sarah Powers and her husband Matt, and Kristen Hippee and her husband Jack, carry forward his legacy of love and strength. Tony’s sister, Judy Self, along with her sons Marc, David, and David’s wife Nabil, share in the deep sorrow of his passing, as do his four grandchildren who were a source of joy and pride. His brother Gary and Velma Troxel also remain bearing the imprint of his life’s influence. Tony was preceded in death by both of his beloved parents, Harold and Joy Troxel, who shared an extraordinary marriage of 71 years, and by his sister, Susan Troxel.

Tony Troxel’s life was a beacon of unwavering dedication, intellectual pursuit, and genuine kindness. He inspired countless people, helping to make their dreams come true with his warm heart and keen mind. Though he has departed from this world, the memories of his laughter, his passionate spirit during “Show-Time,” and the love he generously gave will forever illuminate the lives of those privileged to have known him.

In the hearts of his family and friends, Tony’s legacy will forever resonate—a life well-lived, a man deeply loved, and a soul who made the world a better place through his unyielding commitment to others. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
