Vincent James Hartnett, a cherished member of the community, passed away on June 30, 2025, in San Diego, California, at the age of 69. Born on October 14, 1955, in Los Angeles, Vincent's life was marked by kindness, humility, and a deep commitment to service.
Vincent proudly served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic 3rd Class, contributing to the nation's defense during his military tenure. After his time in the service, he embarked on a career as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, a role through which he touched the lives of many in his community. His work ethic and dedication extended beyond the postal service; he also enjoyed a rewarding stint as an usher at the Hollywood Bowl, where he had the pleasure of witnessing some of the most celebrated artists, bands, and orchestras perform, particularly during the vibrant eras of the 1970s and 2000s.
Vincent was a proud alumnus of St. Genevieve High School in Panorama City, California, graduating in 1973. His educational foundation was complemented by a lifelong passion for learning and exploration. An avid traveler, Vincent embraced the world with open arms, seizing every opportunity to journey to destinations such as Paris, Ireland, London, and even extending his travels to places like the Czech Republic and Australia. He held a special reverence for his pilgrimage to The Holy Land, which left an indelible mark on his spiritual journey.
In his community, Vincent was well-known for his involvement at The Immaculata Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. His faith guided him throughout his life, and he dedicated considerable time to volunteering at Fr. Joe's Village, helping those in need among the homeless population. Vincent’s character was defined by his kindness; he always lent a helping hand and was genuinely interested in the well-being of others, making him a beloved figure among friends and family.
Vincent is survived by his sister Bridget Donnelly and brother-in-law Greg Donnelly, as well as sister Ann Bruss. He treasured his nieces, Kathleen Donnelly and Mary Oliver, and his nephew, John Oliver (Samantha), great niece Josephine June and great nephew Vincent. Their memories of Vincent will forever reflect his loving spirit and gentle demeanor.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, James J. Hartnett, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Hartnett, along with his brothers James M. Hartnett and Thomas G. Hartnett. Their absence is keenly felt, and their enduring legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew Vincent.
As we remember Vincent James Hartnett, we celebrate a life rich with compassion, adventure, and unwavering faith. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
