Walter Joseph “Jay” Hall Jr.September 25, 1965 – September 4, 2026

Walter Joseph Hall Jr., known throughout his life as “Jay,” passed away on September 4, 2026, just a few weeks shy of his 61st birthday.

Jay was born on September 25, 1965, in Baltimore, Maryland, but spent nearly all of his life in San Diego, the city he called home. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1984 and later attended and graduated from San Diego State University.

Jay dedicated 33 years of his life to the United States Postal Service, most recently working at the Carmel Mountain facility in San Diego.

Sports were one of Jay’s greatest lifelong passions. He was the ultimate fan, particularly when it came to his alma maters, Patrick Henry High School and San Diego State University. His enthusiasm went far beyond his favorite teams, however. Jay had a remarkable memory for sports and could tell you the scores and details of seemingly every game that had been played the weekend before. Following sports wasn’t simply a pastime for Jay—it was part of who he was, and something he loved sharing with others.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Catherine, who will forever be grateful for his love and for the ways he strived to be a good father to her. She is especially grateful that he brought her mother, Emma, to the United States, a gift that profoundly shaped her life and for which she will always be thankful.

He is also survived by his sister Pat (Hall) Cantrell, her husband Lee and their sons Ryan and Ethan.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Joseph Hall and Catherine “Kay” Hall.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers, and all those who shared in his love of sports and the San Diego community he called home for most of his life.
