Wayne Kennedy Christopher was born in Newport Beach, CA in 1954. He is preceded in death by his mother, Adaline (Adalyne) Lois Stinzel Christopher, his father, Willis Kennedy Christopher, and his older brother, Chad Kennedy Christopher. Wayne graduated from Marina High School in Huntington Beach in 1972 and then moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State University and to surf. While working on his degree in education, Wayne worked a variety of jobs including painting, boat repair, waiting tables, cashiering, and tutoring English. After receiving his teaching credential, Wayne worked briefly in the La Mesa Spring Valley School District and then moved on to spend the rest of his thirty-two years as a middle school teacher in the Lemon Grove School District. The majority of his career there was spent teaching Social Studies and English at Lemon Grove Jr. High, later called Middle School. The final years of his career were spent at Palm Middle School and the newly created Lemon Grove Academy.
It was while teaching at Lemon Grove Jr. High that Wayne first met his wife-to-be, Doris Shinn Christopher. They worked as colleagues, friends, and ultimately as husband and wife for much of their careers. They were married in 1994 and were blessed with a close and loving relationship. Wayne and Doris retired from teaching in 2015 and spent their time enjoying surfing, the ocean, the theater, live music, travel, their church, and supporting a wide variety of local charity organizations.
Wayne's memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25th at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6556 Park Ridge Blvd, San Diego, with a reception to follow immediately after.
