William John Kirby, known affectionately as Bill to his family and friends passed away on May 14th, 2024, at Grossmont Sharp Hospital in San Diego, California. His legacy is one of dedication and hard work, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on May 25th, 1934, in Beaverton, Oregon, Bill led a remarkable life filled with significant achievements and cherished memories.  Bill attended the catholic jesuit University of Portland, earning his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  After proudly serving in the United States Navy for two years on the U.S.S. Finch as a Chaplain's assistant, Bill went on to work as a marketing executive with Union Oil Company for three decades. He also assisted as a technical advisor in the production of Union Oil commercials. His expertise and commitment earned him his 30-year Gold Watch in 1989.

In addition to his successful career, Bill was a man of many passions. He enjoyed trout fishing in the Sierra's and the Cascade’s with loved ones. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family.  He was a guiding light as a role model for fatherhood.  He triumphed as an avid golfer, fisherman, and reader.  Bill also had a deep love for baseball as a loyal fan of both the Dodgers and the Padres.

Bill's warm personality shone through in all aspects of his life. He was a true people person who valued social interactions with business partners and cherished personal connections with family and friends. Known for his honesty, strong Republican values, and unwavering faithfulness to his spirituality and religion, Bill touched the lives of many through his genuine kindness and compassion.

Among his proudest accomplishments were achieving a Hole in One while golfing, catching a marlin in Cabo San Lucas, visiting all 50 states, cherishing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, upholding his family heritage with pride, and being a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Bill leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished by his surviving family members: his beloved wife of 65 years, Esther; devoted sons Robert John Kirby and Bruce William Kirby; grandsons Ryan William Kirby, Shawn James Kirby, Joseph Thomas Kirby, Taylor Robert Kirby; great-grandchildren Madeleine Blake Kirby and Elias Jameson Kirby. He is also survived by dear friends and nieces and nephews that remember him as their fun Uncle Bill and who will hold him close in their hearts.

Bill is reunited in eternal peace with his parents John William Kirby and Margaret Kirby, brother Richard Kirby, sister Patricia Shreiber, and all those who have gone before him.

In honoring the life of William John Kirby – loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, loyal friend – we celebrate a life that touched so many hearts with warmth and grace. May he rest in peace knowing that he has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
